The 1970s was an exciting time for the media. Newspapers, magazines, radio, and television helped to distribute important information to citizens, and entertained citizens with a variety of different types of media. Media helped to display military abuses during Vietnam War and exposed a corrupt presidential administration. Magazines stressed social reforms that had to be rectified. Television contained different shows that taught children the danger of drugs, and shows that showcased the traditional culture of African Americans. Shows like Good Times, was one of the most watched television shows for 11 years and featured a predominantly African American Cast. Media did not only give important information for the citizens, but revived some the lost multicultural traditions around the world. Soon, cable television in the 1970s allowed specific shows for a specific audience. Children watched shows directed at their age group, while adults watched adult shows. AM radio was popular in the 1970s and 95 percent of American households had AM radios, which were more commercial and carried signals farther that FM. FM radios which took up 74 percent of American households, contained clearer sound. FM radios played classical music, but soon FM radios adopted the album-oriented rock, which allowed FM radios to play albums without commercial interruptions. Soon FM radios became more popular in the 1970s.
